Get to know me!
Hii there! My name is Carmen, I am a dutch photographer, based in Brabant. Since I am not bound to a studio I shoot all over the Netherlands. On this page I will tell you a little bit about myself and how I got into photography. Enjoy the read!
My first experience with photography was as a model. I started modeling when I was 16 years old. My mom bought me a shoot online to help boost my confidence. After a few years of freelance modeling I got signed by an agency. Honestly they did nothing more for me but giving me the opportunity to say that I was a signed model. All of my jobs I got myself, which was fine in my opinion. I actually enjoyed being my own boss.
After finishing high school I went to university to study law. I did not have as much time for modeling as I used to have and I did not have the time at all to keep up my physic. I decided to lay low on the modeling for a while to focus on my school.
The lack of creative output inspired me to seek for something other than modeling. I never thought I would go into photography. I have worked with amazing photographers and I always thought it would be too hard for me. I know what you must think: "Well you can always try..". Yes that is true! The problem with photography is that it is quite an investment, and I am not someone who likes to throw money around.
So what did get me to invest in a camera?
Traveling! I am a huge fan of traveling. I must say, for traveling, a good phone is ideal. Easy to keep in your pocket, quick to charge and easy to share images. Whenever I got back from a trip I would go through my pictures so I could make a selection to put into a photo album. The pictures were great, except for the quality. Zooming in would cause it to be one big blur. Traveling is time and money consuming so I really want my pictures to look good. That is what got me over the edge to buy a camera.
Then you buy your first camera and think: "Hmm, am I sure about this?".. Well I can tell you right now, it was one of the best decisions I have ever made! I truly found my passion in photography. I like to capture the beauty of life on camera. A memory to hold on to, a reminder of how beautiful you are. Sometimes we are so caught up in other people's beauty, we forget our own. Let me capture it for you! :)
I think my experience as a model makes me a better photographer as I know what it feels like to be in front of a camera.
